Graham Linehan accuses Today programme of "poisoning" debate ...
"It should come as no surprise to any Today listener, or guest, that the debates on the programme by nature are lively, informative and challenging at times." Webb is understood to have agreed to apologise to Linehan, however, he wrote on Twitter ahead of yesterday morning's show: "0600 so here goes: watching for Father Ted with baseball bat hiding behind studio door.. . .
Addressing Today’s producers in his blog, Linehan asked yesterday: “Is mis-briefing your guests ethical journalistic practise?
. . .
“What the host didn't realise is that because I'm not a politician, like the fellow I saw in the green room preparing his lines with an aide, I didn't have to be held hostage to their artificial reductive, harmful format.” Linehan, whose previous work includes Black Books and The IT Crowd, claims producers told him he would be asked about "problems in adapting a classic film for the stage" during the interview.

Graham Linehan and Justin Webb Photo: GETTY / REX By Murray Wardrop 7:30AM BST 08 Jun 2011 Comments Graham Linehan, co-creator of the comedy Father Ted, claims he was “ambushed” during an appearance on the flagship news show after producers tried to lure him into a dispute with a theatre critic.
. . .
Linehan, 43, also labelled host Justin Webb a “pompous John Humphrys stand-in” after a prickly interview about his theatre remake of the 1955 film The Ladykillers.
. . .
The Dublin-born writer’s chagrin was clear during the live exchange on Monday’s show after he refused on air to be goaded into an “adversarial fight” with Michael Billington, the Guardian’s theatre critic, about the point of the project.

No fifth series for The IT Crowd - News - British Comedy Guide
I felt that the last series was a nice strong point to go out on, and anything further might just be running on the spot.. . .
That said, I can't see Count Arthur working quite as well without an audience." In closing, Linehan explained to an American fan that: "I would LOVE to work with a team.
. . .
"There just wasn't much in my idea file that topped those episodes, and I like to go into a series feeling I have some big moments lined up." Asked about the previously publicised news that he was working on a fifth series with a group of other writers, Linehan revealed that the "experiment" to foster a virtual writer's room had failed, and that "in the end we weren't able to meet often enough to create the proper atmosphere".
. . .
The good news is an extended special next year called... actually I won't tell you the title because you'll end up imagining better storylines than the one I've written." He went on to clarify "I'll never say never, but at the moment I'm just not feeling it." Responding to a question about the reason for this decision, Linehan answered: "Chief reason was the fact that I just wasn't looking forward to it the way I used to.
. . .
He added: "I wanted to use the team to sort of crowd-source initial ideas, but the actual scripts were always going to be written by me in the end.
. . .
But even if that doesn't happen, I'm quite interested in the idea of the 'IT Crowd Universe'.
