Robin McKinley
It is her duty to bind the Circle, the land and its people together with their new Master.. . .
In McKinley's "First Flight," a boy and his pet foogit unexpectedly take a dangerous ride on a dragon, and her "Hellhound" stars a mysterious dog as a key player in an eerie graveyard showdown.
. . .
How can she help settle their demesne during these troubled times and bind it to a Priest of Fire, the touch of whose hand can burn human flesh to the bone?
. . .
They quickly grow close—so close that their bond becomes a threat to the status quo—and possibly to the future safety of their two nations.

As far as her writing goes, McKinley describes herself as a "scribe" and "Damar's historian", because the stories "happen to her" and she is only responsible for writing them down.
. . .
In 1978, her first novel, Beauty was accepted by the first publisher she sent it to, and she began her writing career, at age 26.
. . .
Her passion for reading was one of the most constant things in her childhood, so she began to remember events, places, and time periods by what books she read where.

In Deerskin, Princess Lissar grows up to demonstrate the very same beauty as her mother.. . .
The magic that Robin McKinley weaves in this book earned her the Newbery Medal.
. . .
The tale has been told and retold countless times, but Robin McKinley adds texture and characterization to the story that other authors have not.
. . .
As always, Robin McKinley's storytelling abilities make the story surprisingly believable and the writing wonderfully melodic.
. . .
In Beauty, she takes a pleasant, familiar story and makes it vivid, detailed, and entrancing.

Days in the Life
PIS is serious. It should be manageable, but it’s serious—and it’s not at all a good sign that they’ve had it pretty much from the get-go. They’re only twenty months old. Among other things this probably means it’s .. . .

Pegasus (Pegasus, #1) by Robin McKinley - Reviews, Discussion ...
Although frustrating that I will have to wait for the next bit to find out what happens, I'm glad she didn't try to squeeze it all into one.But.. . .
Except Sylvi and her pegasus, Ebon, can communicate directly: they can hear each other's thoughts.
. . .
But you keep going, because there might just be something satisfying greeting you at the end of the path. maybe some water, a nice cool shade, or a huge pile of oats and other delectable munchies.
. . .
Also, Ebon is a breath of fresh air, irreverent and unselfconscious - the opposite of solemn Sylvi.
. . .
It was hard, though, to take the majority of the characters seriously, for it seems that Pegasus was the "dumping ground" for all of those horrible and annoying names that all authors have lurking at the bottom of their Possible Names List.
. . .
In the past, translators in the form of mages have been the only way for communication to occur between the humans and the pegasi, but Ebon the Pegasus and Princess Sylvi have defied years of tradition by actually being able to understand each other and being able to communicate without the assistance of a mage.

Robin McKinley -- Interviews in Sherwood - Robin Hood -- Bold ...
But it's a lovely fantasy, and I wouldn't have wanted to miss it.. . .
That's one of the both glorious and heart-breaking things about Robin Hood as I understand him (whether he's one of the ones who shoots well or one of the ones who doesn't): he knows this.
. . .
The concept was great, but the characters needed a little work.
. . .
Born into an American military family, Ms. McKinley now lives in England with her husband, fellow author Peter Dickinson.
. . .
And doing what you have to do anyway, however wretched you're feeling.
. . .
If Robin Hood is what each reteller needs him to be (pace Professor Holt's thesis in his excellent Robin Hood ), one of the things I needed him to be was embroiled in an ongoing argument about the place of women in society, which is very alive to me in this society.

Robin McKinley, Beauty - Rambles.NET, a cultural arts review magazine
But Beauty's penchant for King Arthur legends and Spenser's Fairy Queene seemed like too much an intrusion of the author's preferences.. . .
At an early age, though, Beauty's precociousness earns her the nickname "Beauty," which sticks despite its apparent inappropriateness.
. . .
Despite McKinley's adherence to the original story, Beauty is full of evocative descriptions and interesting tidbits.
. . .
The relationships among Beauty and her sisters and father are well-developed and believable, and the story, told from Beauty's point of view, possesses a strong narrative voice.
. . .
While the novel is well-written and fleshed out, there was nothing in it that shed new light on the story of a young woman kept in the Beast's castle until she agrees to marry him.
. . .
Beauty would prefer reading Greek tragedies and riding horses to courting beaus, which helps her adjust to her new lifestyle once her father's merchant business goes under and the family is forced to move to the country.
